Mirror of The Soul

I can’t bear to look

I kick – you don’t break

The reality of my mind

You are all that’s not fake

A reflection of everything

You do not hide

All those transgressions

I’ve cleverly disguised

My faults, misdemeanours

Right before my eyes

Shining so brightly

Through the transparent lies

My failures and weaknesses

Proudly on show

How can I face…

What I don’t want to know?

So, my back’s to the wall

And my eyes shut tight closed

I can’t look in that mirror

At the reflection of my soul

Let Go…

Your face

Lit up, bright

Smiling

I can’t watch

Love shining

Don’t need eyes

To feel

The intangible

Emotion

A sabre to my heart

Lungs collapse

Futility overwhelms

As I stand mute

Reflecting

My broken body

I realise

Love is not enough

…and I know

I need

To let you go…

(Inspired by A Prompt a Day)

End of The Line

Hit the end of the line

With an almighty thwack

Exhausted reaching

For stars

That shine with glittering vibrance

Only to scorch indelibly

Like 1000 volt shocks

Their beauty and sparkle

Betraying hidden dangers

My fire extinguisher empty

Heat-proof gloves incinerated

I now lie scarred

In the ashes

Of who I once was

Without memories

Far less desire

For their torturous return
